    Domestic Assault in Maryland
My question involves criminal law for the state of: Maryland.

I kicked my girlfriend out the other day because she was being verbally abusive to me and my daughter for the umpteenth time. A lot of screaming and yelling (on her part not mine) and she called my ex a whore in front of my daughter. I took my daughter for a walk and told the gf to have her stuff out by the time I got back. When I returned she was still there and started destroying my apartment. We struggled briefly as I tried to get her out (no real injuries either side) then I ended up calling the police and she left before they arrived. All told she did about $500 or more in damages, and I later discovered she stole my wallet too. With all the damage and screaming my daughter is now terrified the gf will come back and wakes up at night crying (she is 7).

When the police arrived I let them in and showed them the damages (my bedroom floor was littered in glass and all of my shoelaces were cut) but elected not to press charges - I just wanted her out of my life. Had the locks changed the next day.

The next night she returned and tried to use her key to get in (around 2 AM, just after the bar closed). She then banged on my door and demanded I give her some stuff she left. I relocked the door and got her things and put them just outside. After loading them into her car she came back and started banging on the door again and screaming at me. I opened the door and told her repeatedly to leave at which point she tried to force her way in by kicking the door open (I have a nice bruise on my arm to show for it).

When she tried to push her way in I grabbed her wrists and pushed her outside, at which point she fell. I shut the door and waited a min, then checked to make sure she was gone else I would have called the police again.

Now she says she's pressing assault charges against me as she sprained one wrist and broke the other (she sent me a pic on the phone so I know she's not lying). I feel badly that she is hurt but I did not intend to do so, and I was trying to protect my home and my daughter from further trauma. I've not gotten anything from the police yet however this just happened last Friday and with the holiday I expect things are moving slowly.

    Advice?

Get an attorney and start calling the police instead of physically attacking other people.

Yes, I read your entire post. No, two wrongs don't make a right. You pushed her down steps and broke her wrist.

You should be prepared to be charged, arrested and booked.

And the LEGAL way to remove someone from where they are living is by (a) getting a restraining order saying they can't return, or (b) evicting them through the courts. In addition to the criminal issue you're facing, she may also have a civil case against you for unlawful eviction.
