Convincing a Store to Drop the Charges
It's in New York. i was wondering if you were able to get the store to drop the charges would that make everything go away. I went to my first appearance so does that mean it's to late? I'm just worried because i don't get to talk to a Public defender till august 12th and i have to go back to school two weeks after that and there is no way i can make it back from school once i'm dropped off. Does anyone know if they can drop it. or if i can find a way to set up a meeting with the DA to try and get an ACD. i was told that was my best option. i have a clean record and being a pre law major i don't want this stupid mistake to ruin my life. it's for petit larceny of under 50$. please help if you are able.

btw i know i'm a retard. and it was a stupid mistake

The chances of having charges dropped are very, very slim.....Frosty The Snowman has a better chance of surviving a month in Arizona's heat.

you can try talking to the store, be rele sincere, talk to the manager (on the phone since most likely they won't let you in the store without being arrested again). Tell them your story, what you realize, and what you plan on doing to solve this problem. Most managers should be reasonable because they have to deal with so many different people and in making them happy. That is what I am going to do.

I wouldn't waste your time talking to the store. It's not that they are mean or not comapssionate. But once charges have been filed, it is out of the store's hands to do anything about it (on the store level). What's done is done at the store. The only chance you are going to have now is to get in a diversion program. Where I'm at shoplifters are a dime a dozen and we do not have time to look into old cases. GET A LAWYER!

What store are you working in that makes you believe this? Managers try to make CUSTOMERS happy, not CRIMINALS. (Sorry to the OP, but it is true). CRIMINALS do not profit the store, so why "help" them.
