The DMV Will Not Renew My License
My question involves a driver's license issued by the State of: Pennsylvania

PA sent me a letter stating my license was due for renewal in six months and that they would not renew it under a new law preventing license renewels for out of state suspensions.

My license was suspended in the state of New Jersey in 1994. I have been a Pennsylvania resident since 1995. They have renewed without problems for the last 15 years.

I dont see how they can get away with enforcing another states suspension 15 years after the fact simply because a new federal law is put in place.

For what its worth, the suspension was because I did not pay New Jersey's annual surcharge when being pulled over without insurance. My thinking at the time was that I did not live in New Jersey anymore therefore I did not have to pay. They ended up suspending my license.

Is there anything I can do at this point? I feel as though there should be some statute of limitations in effect here but I am not sure.
    Thanks,

There are no statute laws in Pennsylvania for this matter. Pennsylvania has no idea how old or what exactly this is for. They only know that NJ said you are suspended and PA will not renew your license.

I would talk to an expert in NJ and get this taken care of before the 6 months is up. You can not get a license until your surcharges are cleared.

    Good Luck,
