Failure to Obey a Traffic Control Device: Stop Sign
My question involves a traffic ticket from the state of: Oregon
I did not stop completely at a stop sign in Milwaukie, OR. This is my first violation so I'm not sure what the consequence are, and possible mitigation.
This is a Class B violation under OR 811.265. My questions are:
- What is the best way to proceed with the ticket?
- Will this result in points on my license and subsequent insurance increases?
- Is traffic school an option? Will it dismiss a conviction?
- How do you request that? I don't see any official info on the web about traffic school.
- Should I get a lawyer?
Thanks in advance for any sage advice!
Re: Failure to Obey a Traffic Control Device: Stop Sign in Oregon
Check with the court in which your ticket is being handled to see if traffic school is a possibility (for example). Yes, you should expect that a conviction will result in an insurance increase. Oregon doesn't use a "point" system.
You haven't given us any facts that would suggest a defense, so we're in no position to guess what defenses you might offer. It couldn't hurt you to consult a lawyer.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately I rolled the stop right in front of an officer a half a block away who I saw too late. I'm unlikely to have any kind of defense, but will follow up with the court and a lawyer as you suggest.
