Firefox Has Performed an Illegal Action
My question involves defamation in the state of: NJ

I don't have any idea where to post this so I'll post it here. I was minding my own business when I decided that it was "me" time if you catch my drift. So I go to a porn site, and all the sudden Firefox freezes up and a box comes up saying "Firefox has performed an illegal action".

    What happened?

I turned my computer off and got on my laptop. Did Firefox alert my authorities? I'm 17, so porn is illegal for me. But will I get in any legal trouble because of this? I'm really freaked out.

    Thanks

When you use firefox, it logs all of your site history as well as any personal information you submit. Firefox has a partnership with the FBI to crack down on Child Pornographers, but this information can also be used against offenders of other crimes. Odds are the authorities are well aware of your illicit activities, it's probably your best bet to turn yourself in now.

So they can see everything I do? What if I had some conversations with some people? They know I had those? What's the consequences of something like this? Please be serious I'm really scared.

They have everything. Firefox has software bundled with it to log everything you do and detect illegal activity, and if illegal activity is detected it will submit it to the FBI for investigation. As I said, your best bet is to just turn yourself in now and cut your losses.

So they can find me? How long do I have? Is it any worth trying to evade them, or will that just make it worse?

Okay...where do I go? If I got to the police will they already know who I am? What's the sentence? I'm only 17 so it can only be a max of 5 years right? What do I tell my parents?

Well exactly what crimes have you committed besides underage viewing of pornography? And tell them the truth, as soon as possible. You don't want it to be a surprise.

OK I can't in good conscience go through with this.

    No.

Look, your browser is telling you that you either have a virus or its done something a browser doesn't want to do.

FF is not in league with the FBI, CIA or any other government entity.

So, close your browser, clean out your cache, run your AV program, maybe download A2squared and/or Hijackthis! , and relax.

blame it on the Fox. Notice, it says Firefox performed an illegal action, not you. Just like the president, you need to consider the defense of plausible deniability.

Just stick to your guns here. It was the browser, not you. You have to claim you had no idea what the browser was doing and it was not under your direct control.

and now I see doggie has gone and spoiled our fun.

let me ask you this dogmatique: do you really believe there is a 17 yo in the country that doesn't know how to hack into the DOD servers yet this kid comes here and asks about his browser performing an illegal action. Me thinks the trolls are on the loose.

Okay, this is making me feel better. I think I'm gonna get an attorney and sue Firefox. Is this a good idea? If they get me in trouble with the law, should I sue?

Hijackthis sounds dangerous, so I can only assume you're trying to do something to my computer. So no, I wont listen to you.

    .

No, you can't sue. That would blow the claim of plausible deniability. To claim plausible deniability, you have to maintain that you never knew anything about it until the authorities walked up to you and started asking questions. Anything else show you did know about the illegal action and that brings you in as at least an accomplice.

Okay. Ignorance is bliss. I'll do this. What if Firefox calls me and tells me that they are not responsible?

You just ignore their calls. Be sure to erase them from any phone logs on your phone. At least the government guys will have to subpoena your phone records to get any proof. Make them work for their money.

Is this thread a joke? You're trying to see if the people here are tech-savvy, and finding out they're not, or something?

The browser crashed because it tried to perform an "illegal action" - meaning that it, or more likely an extension or plugin you installed, tried to perform a function that was not possible on your computer and caused an error.

Next time stay away from questionable porn sites, and try using Google before panicking.

Because he can't simply go to the store and buy a copy of Penthouse without showing ID....

And for some people....those magazines just don't cut it anyway...porn sites can be racier..... (I'm not a perv....my ex-hubby used to like sending me links to sites to "suggest" what he wanted)

ahahahaaha omg. Way to torture this horny teen. It just means you need to buy a new laptop coz your laptop is jurassic. Or maybe your parents set a security block for porn sites. You are sooo freaked out. I dare you to try going to a different porn site and if does the same.. i am 101% sure your parents block porn sites in the security setting. This thread made me LMAO!!!! I cant believe if you are serious or you all are just clueless about computers.
