Shoplifting-No Court
I was caught shoplifting a WalMart in West Virginia about 6months ago. I cooperated very well with the LP and the cop who showed up. I had to sign the trespassing paper. I was given some sort of fine to pay which i have already done. I did not get printed, or taken to jail. I did not have to go to court either. Just some fine and that was the end of the story. Im just wondering, what did I pay and will this show up for future employment?

Did you pay the fine to the store, or to somebody else (e.g., the court, the state, the county, etc.)

Re: Shoplifting-No Court
I'm in the exact same boat as you buddy. West Virginia, just a couple weeks ago. I plan on posting the entire detail of my ordeal pretty soon for everyone else's reference, but I think we can learn from each other for right now. I'm from KY, not WV, but me and my friends decided to take a road trip during finals (I'm a junior in college). I thought maybe I didn't have to go to court because I was from another state, but if you're from WV, maybe they just don't go to court for shoplifting or something (although that doesn't really sound right). Another reason we probably didn't go to court is because we (I'm assuming you did this too) signed the back of the citation, effectively admitting guilt (so yes, it will show up on our records), and doing away with the need to got to court.
I got picked up in Huntington, where i think the shoplifting fine itself is only $96 (a tiny fee compared to most states), or at least that's what the cop said (kind of a deuche bag, the LP's were okay once they stopped twitching and fearing for their lives and shit; I'm a big guy, I think they thought I was going to slug them when they stopped me outside the store). Then, in addition to that I was charged twice the price of the item stolen (57 x 2 = 114), amounting to $210, my full fine. I payed this fine to the court, but I think the fine also contained Wal Mart's restitution fees (allowable in WV as either $50 or twice the price of the item, whichever is higher), if that's even possible. I haven't recieved any contact from Wal Mart (and I hope I never do). I'm pretty sure this is what's happening to us. If there are any further developments in your problem, please let me know so I'll kind of have a heads up. Glad I could help, if I did.
PS
Screw Wal Mart. I'm done standing in the belly of evil.

Re: Shoplifting-No Court
Im a sophmore in college and I just had my third interview from Bombardier Aerospace yesterday. They didnt mention anything about my background after the check. So I dunno about that. Anyways, its been six months since the "accident" and nothing more has happened. You paid your find and thats it. Nothing more to worry about bro.
