Must depend on the state you live in, because up here, your child can have any last name that you desire as long as the name isn't in dispute. Doesn't matter what the parent surnames are.
I think it's safe to assume that hubby and wifey are not in agreement in this situation
Yep, such things are usually state-specific. Georgia is a little odd about paternity to begin with (and I say that with no negative connotation whatsoever).
What's funnier (to me) though is the number of people who seem to believe that giving the child Unmarried Dad's last name means that Unmarried Dad is automatically required to pay child support....

You would think that in the UNITED states, they would at least ATTEMPT to make the laws somewhat uniform, KWIM???
I get you on the giving baby dad's last name v. c/s. How long do you figure before DNA tests become one of the 'normal' newborn tests? Sure would cut down on the number of he said/she said cases for paternity.
The whole 'name' thing baffles me though.... who cares what baby's surname is as long as the parents are correctly identified on the bc???
