Default False Statement Made to Police

I made a false statement to the police and now I am being charged and taken to court next month for a minor traffic offence. I am going to see my lawyer tomorrow. Is it too late to change the version of events when explaining this to my lawyer? the police officer wrote everything down and got me to sign it. If i change the version of events to my lawyer, i fear that i may also be charged for making a false police statement.

    Please advise...

    Tell your lawyer the truth.

Have him/her advise you what to do next.

Should i also tell him about the false statement ? I'm really worried now. I feel like this whole case is going to get me into some serious trouble.

There were parts in the incident which involved reckless driving by the other driver, but i just told the officer i wasn't at the scene at the time. When i appear in court surely the officer would point out the fact that i stated that i wasn't there?? and i would be found guilty almost immediately and would have no grounds to stand on. Where as if i was to continue to go to court with my false statement I wouldn't be charged for making a false statement and would only be charged for the traffic incident.
