Default Is Emancipation a Good Idea, and What are the Alternatives

My question involves emancipation laws for the State of: Montana.

My friend father has had a new girlfriend for the past 3 or 4 years who has taken over my friends life. Most of the time her life consist of her getting screamed at, threatened, forced to eat foods she doesn't like, and has to clean the entire house that this woman has destroyed. Yes, it is exactly like Cinderella except the fact that she has an older sister and her father is letting all this happen..

She has a mother who is a drug attic so she cant turn to her.. I am getting very worried because she told me she is going insane and suicidal. She is only 15. She asked me to find out what the laws of emancipation were so that she could think about it.. or is something better that emancipation?

I need help. I feel so bad for her and want to help... also is there anything legal I can do?

Please PLEASE answer as soon as possible!!!!

she needs to speak with a school counselor, a suicide intervention group, or child protective services.

from what you have stated, it probably does not rise to a level that child protective services would be able to do anything though.

nothing you have stated would give her a reason to be emancipated.

Food she doesn't like? Doing chores?

These are NOT reasons to become emancipated.

Your friend needs to do as JK suggested.

You have no legal standing to do a thing unless you truly believe abuse is involved in which case YOU have an obligation to get CPS involved.

    Montana's emancipation is quite limited.

And no, it does not appear to be an option for your friend. Doing chores and not having her pickiness catered to are not abuse. Claiming she's suicidal will ensure that she's NOT a candidate for emancipation, even if she were of age and already self-supporting - which she is neither.
