Warrant for Arrest Issued

My question involves an arrest warrant from the State of: West Virginia

About 6 months ago I received a moving violation for following too close in West Virginia. I decided to appear instead of paying (stupid in hindsight) because I was actually getting ready to pass someone in front of me who was going 35 in a 55.
I missed the court date by mistake and then I never did anything about it! Today I received a letter stating they have a warrant for my arrest and I need to contact them as soon as possible.
My question is: What are the possible consequences here for the failure to appear + the original violation..What is the best thing to do? Do I have to appear and/or should I get a local attorney and how much could this cost me?

Some states will issue a new charge for somebody who fails to appear in court. You haven't indicated that you have such a new charge, so I'm assuming that you do not. If you do not, you're most likely looking at an additional fine for contempt of court, beyond the charge for the ticket. The best thing to do is to get before the court and wrap this up before you get picked up on a bench warrant.

If you want to know what a local lawyer will charge to represent you, call some local law offices and ask.
