Default Handicapped Parking Sign Installed After Car Was Already Parked

My question involves towing laws for the State of: Maryland

I live in an apartment complex in Anne Arundel County. I parked my car in my usual spot after coming home from work a couple of days ago. I then was homebound for a couple of days, so the car sat in the spot for 2 days without moving.

At some point AFTER I had parked the car there, the apartment complex had a handicapped sign installed in front of the space, and then had my car towed for being in a handicapped space. Is this even remotely legal?

If you can prove that the sign was installed after you were parked, that seems like a pretty good defense to the parking violation and tow.

Was this space previously handicapped parking, but the sign was somehow removed? Were there any other markings (blue lines, etc.)?

Did the apartment complex order the tow? If so, what have they said in response to your informing them that you were parked in the spot before the sign went up? Did somebody else order the tow? If it was somebody other than the apartment complex, who ordered the tow?
