Question Ex-Employer Wants a Earlier Date Resignation Letter

    Hello,
I used to work for a Job Shop (or a consulting firm for some of you), they had sent me on a job where I worked for few months and quit that position but wanted to stay with my Job Shop and look for new contract, after two weeks of them searching for a new job for me and myself searching as well, I found a permanent position somewhere else and I resigned. My job shop held some of funds on my payroll and they want me to send them another resignation letter with the date when I quit the contract with the client (two weeks back).

My question is, can I legally sign a resignation letter with the date other than when I resigned ? Would it be called "falsifying a document", can I get in trouble for doing that in any way ?

    Waiting for your expert opinions,

    Thanks,
    Ashl

The employer cannot hold your pay for this reason, or any reason. If you choose to, you can file a claim for unpaid wages with (probably) your state (whatever state that is) Dept. of Labor. Having said that, if there is no disadvantage to you to compose such a letter, I don't see any big deal about it; it could likely take months for the DOL to get to your claim, with the increased workload and reduced staff and even furloughs in state government. It's a matter of semantics; quitting the assignment vs. quitting the employment relationship with the agency.
