Guardianship of a Parent with Dementia in Georgia

My question involves guardianship in the State of: Georgia

I've just been granted guardianship of my physically healthy but mentally incapacitated father. What general advice would you offer?

I'm particularly concerned with limiting my personal liability if he refuses to comply with my decisions (e.g.: if he decides he doesn't like the independent living facility we place him in and just walks out one day) and my financial liability (e.g.: if said facility requires a "responsible third party" to sign the lease).

If you don't want to personally guarantee a lease or any other financial obligation, don't. If that means you have to find a different place for your father to live, you will have to choose between biting the bullet and looking for alternatives.

What are you thinking your father might do if he walks away from an independent living facility, let alone what he might do that would somehow create liability for you. (You're not, for example, leaving him with a car to use, are you?)
