    Default British Media Law

Hi, I'm new to the world of law and would like some help with the following question.

Before, during and after a Florida trial, in which a prominent man was accused of rape, the following events occurred:

    A) After the man’s arrest and before the trial began, newspapers carried speculative stories about other sexual activities of the accused.
    B) Parts of the trial were televised.
    C) Some of the newspapers carried the name and the photographs of the complainant.
    D) After the trial the complainant was quoted by newspapers and broadcasting media as saying outside the court that she stood by her evidence though the accused was acquitted.

What would have been the legal position for British newspapers if the trial, and the above events, had taken place in England and Wales?

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Even in England with its liberal libel laws (which is where you need to look) would likely not result in any verdict for the accused criminal.

And be prepared to spend many hundreds of thousands of pounds to even get it to trial and then kiss it all goodbye.

In the US it would be dismissed on summary judgment very promptly.
