Two Lanes Merging into One

My question involves a traffic ticket from the state of: California

There is a stretch of road by my house where two lanes merge into one lane. I am under the impression that in said situation, each car is required to zipper (allowing a car from each lane to merge into the lane one at a time.) I was side swipped on my right rear tire, after a car speed up to keep me from merging, and tried to tail gate the car in front of them, even though I beeped my horn to alert the driver of my situation as they were very close to me and had no place to go. I was also already slightly in front of the car, as can be proven by the fact they hit my rear driver's side tire.

Is there anyway this could be my fault as I was in the right lane and they were in the left, as most of the time the lane merges from the left lane into the right?

never mind, I reread it:

whose lane disappeared and were there any signs presented to anybody and exactly what were the signs stating or showing.

There were no signs that state "right lane ends" I do believe there might be a sign, but can not remember if there really is one or not.

well, that's a mighty important detail.


If you had a sign that showed a picture of your lane ending or any sign that referred to something similar in meaning, you will probably lose as your lane ended and you needed to merge safely into the other lane. That obviously did not happen.




If the sign said:

everybody is on their own to cram together into one lane

I think you have a fighting chance at winning.

so, were you in a lane when this happened or outside of a lane (any part of your car) and the same for the other guy.
