Default Suspected of Embezzlement
Two years ago I came up on some hard times as a single working mother. I worked for a large company where cash was readily accessible. I did something that I thought I was not capable of, I stole. I only did it once in the amount of $500. Well through some twists and turns the center I worked for ended up being about $70000 short. $20000 was out of my register. So when brought in for questioning I admitted to taking the $500, but I honestly do not know where the rest of that money went. I have not heard anything from this company in a little over two years now and do not know what to expect. I have a daughter who is fixing to be three and I cannot go to jail. I know what I did was wrong. No excuses. I have since paid back the $500 that I took, but still have not about legal prosecution. What do I need to do? How long does this company have to press charges? NEED TO KNOW IN ARKANSAS

To be clear...

You admitted to taking the $500 two years ago, repaid it at that time, and have not heard anything since?

Default Your answer...
Yes, that is correct. I admitted to the theft, paid back the $500 and have not heard anything from the company again.

It's possible that something could happen, but if it has been two years since you repaid the $500 and have heard nothing since, it's very unlikely.

Default What if...
How long am I going to have to worry about whether or not I am going to be arrested? There is literally not a day that goes by that I don't think about what will happen if I have to leave my child. If something happens, what will I be charged with? Will I be looking at jail time? I have a clean record. No priors, nothing. What if they try to pin the rest of the missing money on me. I know that I did not take anything besides what I have already admitted to, but because I admitted to that, I know how it looks. I know I am asking a million questions, but I just worry.

Default Re: Suspected of Embezzlement
I would check into the states statute of limitations but from experience if they could not prove it in 2 years time it probably over. If they thought you did it they would have charged you and set you up with a payment plan to pay back the misapropriated funds.
