Gas Pump Bump

My question involves an injury that occurred in the state of: NJ
I was at the pump getting gas, had paid the attendant, and he had already recapped my tank, and given me back change (just to give you an idea of how long I was there ) a car had pulled around on the side (driver s;ide rear). He must have thought I was moving faster than I actually was, or was trying to close the gap between our cars so that another car pulling in directly behind wouldn't beat him to my pump. Needless to say, he hit me in the rear corner of my bumper. He is claiming I backed into him. Who is at fault?

Note- he admitted fault at the scene , and said we didn't need to call police, since it was minor, and he was in a hurry. Then, he goes and files a report, claiming o hit him. I was alone, and he had a person in the car.

Have you checked with the gas station to see if they have video of the incident? A lot of gas stations have outside video to catch people who try to drive away without paying.
