My question involves child support in the State of: KY
I was never married to my son's father. He has no legal visitation and has never seen his child. The court finally found him and after a paternity test forced him to pay me support. I have not seen him since. I went to file my taxes this year and it was kicked back saying that someone had claimed my child. After looking into it I found out that my childs father claimed our child the previous two years. Those previous years I did not have a job and I did not file taxes so my CPA said that is how he got away with it.
I'd like to know what I can do? I contacted the IRS about this issue this year and I have to file some papers and do some things to get my tax credit for my child for this year. They said with the previous two years there isn't anything they can do. I thought I was supposed to sign a paper to give him permission to claim our child. I never did that. He just claimed and got the money. He's always paid support since the court date so maybe he thinks he's entitled to it and since he got away with it the previous two years then he could do it again. What can I do?
