I am going pro-se to file a petition for expungement for two charges that I was found innocent of in the State of New Mexico. I contemplated using an attorney, but the quoted cost was $2k, which seemed high to clear arrest records for a charge I was found innocent of.
Anyway, I went to the local law library and read up on expungement, and used some sample forms to put together a petition for expungement. There is a section in the example letter that I have a question about, and have included it below. When it refers to "broker-dealer", is that referring to a stock broker? I read the following section as stating that you want to become a stock broker, and therefore, before doing so, you need your arrest record expunged. Am I reading this correctly? I hope someone can help clarify this for me, as, I do not want to become a stock broker, just want me arrest records for two charges I was acquitted of expunged.
"Petitioner now seeks to qualify as a broker-dealer under the securities laws of the United States. The existence of his arrest record will likely be harmful to petitioner’s future professional career. Petitioner does not believe there is any public interest in denying him the relief requested and is informed that respondents have previously consented to such relief in other cases."
