Sued Two Years After Causing an Accident

My question involves an injury that occurred in the state of: Alaska

2 years ago i was T-boned into a light post. a police report was filed but no charges. since i was unconcious, i was the one found at fault. I'm not debating that point. I was glad just to have that whole ordeal taken care of.
My brother called me up to tell me he saw my name on the court view on the states website. That guy filed a case against me for vehicle damage. 3 days before the 2 year mark was up. I had car insurance during the accident, and for about a year afterwards. I dropped my policy around 6 months ago because i was unemployed and couldn't afford it. will the coverage still get my backing if i get a notice in the mail about this whole case?
