My question involves expungements or pardons of misdemeanor charges for the state of Connecticut -
I was 18 years old and I was found in possession of alcohol at the University of Connecticut. I was arrested (not cuffed/taken to station, just stopped by police, they took my information and gave me a Promise To Appear in court).
In court, I didn't even go before a judge. I met with the prosecutor who agreed to drop my charge down from Possession of Alcohol By A Minor to Violation of Town Ordinance. I paid a $250 fine (which I think means that it is a guilty plea to the lesser charge?) and the whole thing was done.
My question is:
*It has been 7 years since all of this (I am 25 now and have not been convicted of any other crimes since this time). With this misdemeanor charge, am I eligible for expungement of my record, since I am sure this is impeding my ability to obtain better employment in these harsh economic times.
*If so, do I need to hire a lawyer or is this something I can do for myself so I do not have to incur fees to get this done/how can I do this?
*If so, am I likely to be approved for expungement?
