Default Dismissed misdemeanor charges on a criminal record

If your case gets dismissed in court and you are found not guilty, does that mean that your criminal record is completely blank or does it say "misdemeaner petty theft - dismissed" ?

and what happens with the arrest records? does that show up on criminal background checks? can you have the arrest records expunged or sealed?

If the matter was reported to the CA DOJ, or you were booked (prints taken), then there will be a Criminal Offender Record for you.

And both the court and the arresting agency will have a record of the arrest and any crime report. The court records are publicly available and a public records' check in that county will likely result in the record popping up. Many on-line background firms would be able to obtain this info from the courts - not likely from the police department ... the police tend to keep their records a little closer to the vest.

And to clear, seal, or expunge this arrest (if eligible):
