Divorce, Custody and Child Support with Parents in Different States

My question involves child support in the State of: Connecticut

So my situation is really weird, but I know I'm not the first to have this happen to. I was married in NV and I ended up leaving my husband when i was 4 months pregnant, he was caught cheating on more than one occasion so I walked out on him. I ultimately ended up moving to CT because I have family here. Legally we're still married, but that process is taking a while. I had the baby here in CT, she has my last name. I have been raising her with the help of my mom and dad since the day she was born. Her dad has not sent me anything. I filed for child support through the state, but I was curious how long it takes? Her dad is constanty telling me he is going to fight for custody, when he has a really long arrest record and nothing positive to offer to our daughter. She is now 5 months old and I need to get back to work, but I want him to start paying his half. Is there anything I can do to speed up the process or get him to start helping now? He has never met our daughter or anything, he has no intentions on it.

When you say "that process is taking a while", what do you mean? A divorce has been filed? In what state?

If no divorce has been filed, filing one would be a good way to "speed up the process".
