8 years ago I plead guilty Simple battery by way of Domestic violence in a Louisiana .I have served my sentance satisfying the court and made amends with the victim .This was my first and only involvement with the law and have been a law abiding citizen since .I admitted my guilt and wanted to get on with my life and put the past behind me , but I'm finding that this is hard to do . There was a few instences when my background has limited on a profesional basis and being an avid hunter , I have lost my right to possess firearms . Now being a father I would like to pass on the the ways of handling and respecting a gun onto my son as my father pass on to me , but cannot do so . I would like to know if I could qualify for an expungment on this conviction with all rights restored and if so , do I need an attorney or can I handle this through the sheriff's or D.A.s office .
