Hospital bills sent to credit collection

Myth or fact: If you are making an effort to pay a hospital bill every month, can that bill be turned over to a credit collection agency? I have been told by many people that, even if paying a small sum, as long as you are paying without fail, medical bills cannot be turned over. Of course, the hospital denies this and tells me how much I have to pay per month. Any suggestions?

If you are making the required payments under your agreement, a hospital will not normally turn the matter over to collections. If you miss payments or don't make the full payment you agreed to make, that may change.
