Am I Entitled to Financial Support

Question regarding the state of Alabama.

I am an Australian married to an American man. I am living in Australia. I came back here 7 months ago after he assaulted me.
My question is, does he have to financially support me while i am currently unemployed. I know i will get another job but my contract ran out last week leaving me without work.
He has left me in $15,000 worth of debt and i cannot pay this off now i'm not working. Unfortunately the loans i took out for him are in my maiden name only.
I have proof of how much money i sent him through Western Union.
He told me he won't pay me a cent.
Can someone advise me of my rights please because the laws are different over there.

We are still legally married but i havent seen him since June 09. We continued talking on the phone and sending emails because a few weeks ago i was going to move over there to give our marriage a go. I have been asking him to send me money to help pay off the large loan he left me with but he has refused. I told him last week that our marriage was over if he couldn't pay his debts he left here in Australia.
