Shoplifting Charge in Texas

My question involves criminal law for the state of: Texas

I was arrested at a Macys in Denton for shoplifting. They said the items came up to $102. I made bail and now I have a hearing date set. It was a stupid thing to do. I went to the mall with a friend and we went into the dressing room and put the clothes in our purses. I had a clean record before this and will never do anything like this again. I've made alot of changes to take my life in a different way.

I'm really confused on this whole process. I know Im going to need a public defender but when do I get one? What's going to happen at the arraignment what plea do I enter even though Im guilty? I've heard I can plea out to a lesser charge how is that possible?? Just so much information I've tried looking up on my own and can't sort through it all. Can someone help me sort through it all??

You could get a civil demand letter from Macys and you have to pay as soon as possible. If you don't pay it or ignore the letter, then the store can sue you and you will pay even more.

Plea Not Guilty and ask for a Public Defender. <--- a lesser charge

Plea Guilty <--- Maximum sentence.

Save a lot of $$$$$$ now because the whole process is expensive.
