Default Serious infection after a hysterectomy

A year ago my doctor told me I needed an immediate hysterectomy. A week later I had a total abdominal hysterectomy and was released in 3 days because everything was normal. Three days later I noticed my upper legs were becoming purple as if I was bruising. Every day the color became worse. After day 5, I started feeling feverish, tired and had abdominal pain. Something was not right. On day 6 my husband took my temperature and it was 103 degrees, rushed me to the hospital that performed the hysterectomy. Ten hours later after an MRI, I was told I had 3 large absesses in my abdominal area and was admitted and put on triple anitbiotics for the next week. I had to have the incision opened to remove the infection and had an open wound for almost 6 weeks. I was told I was bleeding internally after the surgery and it pooled and got infected. Do I have any recourse? Major scar now that has really disfigured me.

It isn't clear from what you write whether there would be any liability. Infections do occur after surgery. Did you receive appropriate discharge instructions? Did you try getting follow-up care or medical advice at any point between your discharge and your crisis on day six?
