Little Contact With Criminal Defense Lawyer

My husband is involved in a criminal case, we hired an attorney and paid a 5500.00 fee. This case has been going on for 9 months now and they just asked for the indictment about 3 weeks ago. In the nine months we have met with the attorney twice face to face and spoke a total of less than an hour all combined by phone. we call and get his voice mail and leave message and he doesn't return the calls, then finally he returned the call and said we would meet last week either Tuesday or Wednesday, both days he cancelled we were to meet again on Thursday at 5:30 and he called at 2:30 and said he was sick and cancelled again, said he would be out of town until the 17th and we would meet on the 18th, is this normal we have never been involved with the court system or attorney's and now my husband is afraid that this guy is not doing anything and he's being played for a fool. We don't have the money to hire a new attorney, what are our options in the state of GA?

Unfortunately, it's getting late in the game to be worrying about the lawyer's apparent lack of interest in the case. Ideally he'll get a lot more motivated now that the trial is coming. If push comes to shove and you don't think he's doing anything on the case, you'll have to look into switching lawyers or trying to get a court appointed lawyer.

this lawyer has been telling us the whole time that he thought it would just be dismissed, so we thought we were alright, unfortunately we don't have the money for a new attorney and really wouldn't know how to find one,
