Having Two Valid Driver Licenses at the Same Time

My question involves a driver's license issued by the State of: New York and California.

I am originally from New York and I am in California for a limited period.I applied for driver's license in California and they gave me a temporary driver's license. RMV said they would mail me the original license. To date, its been almost two months and i still carry the temporary driver's license. I have not received the original one yet.

In the meanwhile,my New York license was about to expire, i applied for renewal in New York. RMV in New York issued me a new New York driver's license.

So essentially i carry two driver's licenses, one from New York and one from California where the California driver's license is a temporary one.

Some body scared me that having two licenses at the same time is illegal. I did not know that till now. Is that true? If so, what should be done?

I want to know how can i resolve this issue peacefully. I would appreciate your help.

Destroy the license from the place you don't live and keep the license from the place you do.

From the California Vehicle Code:

12511. No person shall have in his or her possession or otherwise
under his or her control more than one driver's license.

I suspect New York has a similar provision in the law.
