Default Reckless/Improper Driving from a Fender Bender

My question involves a reckless driving ticket from the State of: VA

I rear ended someone this afternoon. The damage to both vehicles was very minimal. I wasn't speeding, the light was green and the traffic around me was going but the woman I ended up hitting was not going and I was unable to stop in time. I called the police and the officer gave me a reckless driving ticket because the woman I hit requested an ambulance. There is no way she was hurt and the police officer made it clear he did not believe that she was hurt. He said he had to issue a summons because the ambulance was called. The police officer also said that he did not believe I was driving recklessly and that he would petition that I am charged with improper driving. I don't believe I deserve this either. It was an accident that was hardly a fender bender. What should I do?

well, there was a wreck due to your negligence. That is the perfect definition of reckless driving.
I am not an attorney and any advice is not to be construed as legal advice. You might even want to ignore my advice. Actually, there are plenty of real attorneys that you might want to ignore as well.

As the trooper in VA who wrote me a ticket for a rear-end accident years ago: in VA, if you're the one who causes the accident it's an automatic RECKLESS citation.
You have no constitutional right not to be offended.
