My question involves a traffic ticket from the state of: Florida
I had a small fender bender 19 years ago in a parking lot in Florida. I don't even remember all the details. However, I do not remember getting a ticket for that small fender bender since it was in a parking lot.
Now 19 years later, living in CA, I received a letter from some law firm in Miami, telling me that I owe some tremendous amount of money because of that accident. Back 19 years ago. It looks like they gave me a ticket (without actually giving me one, since I never really had one in my possession, nor did they mail me anything after the accident.). I lived in Florida for another two years after the incident and never heard anything about an outstanding ticket, nor any outstanding traffic violations. Now 19 years later, they send me a huge bill.
Is there a way to fight that? How can I find out what this is for and why they wait 19 years to accumulate such large fees before they try to contact me?
I tried calling the number on the letter, but they don't know anything, they are just acting as a collecting agency.
Please advice me on what my options are and if there is a way out of this, since I feel like I am victim of bureaucracy in this case. If I had knows of any outstanding tickets or violations back in Florida 19 years ago, I would have taken care of them a long time ago.
Thank you.
David
