Handicapped Parking Ticket

My question involves a traffic citation from the state of: california
I was at my college campus with a friend and we were late she pulled out a handicapped placard and we parked in the handicapped space(it wasn't hers or mine). when i left campus a parking enforcer ran the placard and gave me a $340 ticket for misuse of placard and told me i will get a letter from the DMV. what should i expect from this letter? I know it was wrong and im just scarred and confused? THANKS
