Discrimination or not?

I recently worked at a job that I tried so hard to keep because I have 4 children and need to put a roof over their head. But constantly over and over again no matter how hard I tried I was always being put down, my boss would call me an idiot, tell me that I am incompete, illiterate, slow, not worthy, a waste of his time, etc. This was an everyday thing no matter how hard I worked. Just recently he asked me what nationality was I, I told him that I was Puerto Rican and he told me that I was not, then he went on and said that if I was a Puerto Rican, I was considered one of the FAKE puerto ricans. I tried to express my opinion and he told me that he did not hire me as a consultant and that I was not hired to speak, I hired to listen to what he said and keep going. He hired me as a Administrative Assistant and then dropped me to the front desk and than to credentialing and then to phones. He said that people should be grateful in his business that he pays for their living, he told me that I should give thanks to him because he pays to support my family and if I don't do my best than my family doesn't eat. Please someone help me, what do I do?

Unfortunetly, one comment or act doesn't consititute discrimination, there has to be a pattern. Your boss is very much a world class jerk, but thats not illegal. My suggestion is to start looking for other employment.
