Living Room Turned into a Bedroom

Is it illegal to turn a living room into a bedroom? Someone told me that it wouldn't fly if the department of health came and inspected the house. What is so hazardous about that, and would the person living in that room get kicked out if discovered?

Lots of people use a living room as a de facto guest room or bedroom. Think also of the 'efficiency apartment', which is essentially 'everything in one room' (except the bathroom). It may be that your landlord can't classify the living room as a bedroom when renting out the apartment, but that doesn't mean you can't use it as one once you're there.

Check the laws of your undisclosed state, or the ordinances for your undisclosed municipality.
