Collection of Remaining Balance on Repo'ed Car

My question involves an auto loan or repossession in the State of: Texas
My boyfriend recently (2 months ago) had his truck reposessed by Chrysler. The collection agency claims he still owes $4000. How long does it take for a judgement to be made against him? Also, if a judgement is made can they take money out of his bank account or garnish his wages?

We can't even tell you if he's going to be sued over the debt. If he's sued, the length of time it takes to get a judgment depends upon whether he defends himself in the litigation, and the merits of his defenses.

With a judgment they can garnish bank accounts. Texas does not ordinarily permit wage garnishment.

My concern is that the collection agency is telling him that they can take his money from him, but I know that's not true unless they have a judgement against him. His P.O. box was closed for a few months and I know that if a case was filed he would be notified by mail. Is there any way to find out if a case has been filed? Would it be filed with our local court?
