My question involves vehicle registration or title in the state of: Texas

I purchase a BMW new in 2002 in the State of California. BMW Finance was the lender. I subsequently filed for chapter 13 bankruptcy that was eventually dismissed (not discharged). during this term, I relocated to Texas and registered the vehicle in Texas. the State of Texas then issued a title to the vehicle and sent it to BMW Finance. Apparently this was done in error because of the bankruptcy, and the State of Texas rescinded the title.

After the dismissal, I have since paid this car off completely on good terms with the lender. Upon payment, BMW finance sent to me what appeared to be a free and clear Texas Title. Unfortunately, when i went to get my current registration done on the car, I was inforrmed that the title I hold is not valid and in order to properly get the car titled, I would have to have the original title / paperwork from California.

that paperwork no longer exists. the State of California destroyed their records about a year ago.

Am I the proud owner of an untitleable car? What are my options? I owned it since day one, and nobody has any leins against it. any help would be appreciated.
