15 Year Old, Killed by Police

A sad day here in the twin cities of Champaign-Urbana, Illinois. Fifteen year old Kiwane Carrington was shot and killed, by an unnamed officer.

Police were called to investigate two teens apparently trying to gain access to a home in Champaign. Responding were Chief of Police, R.T. Finney, and an unnamed patrol officer. A "scuffle" at the scene with the two 15 year olds resulted in the death of young Mr. Carrington.

Very little information has been released at this time, however, at least one radio station has reported that he was shot in the back.

considerable amount of tension, concern, and grief in my community right now.

DK, Po Po pretty tight lipped so far. This happened yesterday. Today I asked the Mayor how a scuffle with two 15yo kids requires deadly force. His response "There are some tough kids that age".

Since we don't know any of the details, it may be a scooch early to start reverse engineering what happened.

If the police shot the boy without reason, they should be tried, convicted and imprisoned for the remainder of their lives.

Let's not go down a path.

If, for instance, this child drew a weapon on the officer, then the officer had every right to protect him/herself.

I believe that if a person has committed an act so heinous or depraved that the court deems that person beyond rehabilitation, then a capital sentence may be imposed.
