Default Charity Care and Petitioning for Relative

    Hi!
    I am from NJ.

I am a naturalized US citizen and right now in the process of petitioning my mother to bring her to US. In addition I would like apply for Charity care medical program for myself (I am eligible according the income limit).
    The question is:
Can it influence somehow the petition process and they can refuse to let Mother come here? Does the Charity care program belong to "public charge" category?

    Thank you for your advice.

If you cannot pay for your own health care, how do you expect to pay for your mother's? She will not qualify for any government funded care - other than for emergencies.

You mother can certainly be refused if it is believe she will become a "public charge". It seems reasonable that you fix your financial problems before adding more to them.

Thank you for your reply. However, I did mention that is not for my mother, but for myself. And I wonder if the charity care even defines as public charge as Medicaid and Medicare?
    Tnank you.
