My question involves criminal law for the state of: Georgia
Okay, tonight I was at a party at a friend of mine's house, and while going to check on another friend, the cops came and broke it up. I was incredibly dumb and had a cup of beer in my hand, and as such, the cop issued me a citation. The citation was for an open container and nothing more, but I am underage. What I'm wondering is if additional charges can be tacked onto this open container charge. Several people I know have said that since I am underage, they can still charge me with MIP even though the only citation that the officer issued me was for an open container. Any help would be appreciated, as right now I'm scared out of my mind.
This is also my first and only run in with the law, and I have money with which to pay for the ticket. Also, do I need to contact a lawyer to represent me on the off chance that they can in fact add the MIP to the previous citation? And, the officer took my I.D. and never gave it back, so can that be used against me, even though the ticket has my D.O.B. on it?
Thanks to everyone who can help me in advance.
