K1 Visa and Sponsor's Employment

For a US citizen to sponsor a fiance to enter the US, is it necessary for the sponsor to be employed? The sponsor has savings, but will that be enough to satisfy USCIS and the affidavit of support? Or should the US citizen return to the US an dseek employment before filing? Also, does it help for the sponsor to have another family member who can also sign an affidavit of support?

Without knowing the details, I think it will help for the sponsor to have employment or for there to be a co-sponsor who is employed.
