Slandering Sexual Harrassment

Recently while discussing work with my boss, the name of an employee came up. My boss then said, "oh, he's ****ing Ms. X (who is also an employee). Do I have a right to report this? I am willing to take a polygraph on this.(it's not the first time he does this) Also, do the 2 employees he slandered have a right to sue? And finally, if I report this to Human Resources, can I or do I have an obligation to report it to the 2 employees who he slandered? Thanks for any info you can give me.

Mr. X is a current employee, Ms. Z is a 2 year retiree from the company. This is a 500 plus company. Mr. X is renting a room from Ms. Z and this is why the Boss made the comment. Mr. X was part of a work conversation and this is when the boss made that comment which was unwarranted.

Hey cyjeff, I'm looking for advice not smart ass replies. Tattling goes both ways, employer and employee. If there is a violation of company rules then there is a legal obligation to report it. My question was for my concern of my co-workers being slandered.

Anybody out there with good advice is appreciated.

Cyjeff is correct. You are under no legal obligation to say or do anything.

Your company may require you to report to HR - and by all means, do so if you feel strongly enough that you're here wanting to know that the two parties should do - but that would be company policy and not a law.
