Seniors in Debt
My question involves collection proceedings in the State of: Florida
My husband and I are seniors and due to medical expenses and loss of income we find that we are not longer able to pay our debts. Our income consists only of SS and a very small pension. All we own is the trailer we live in, a car worth less than $2,000 and a camper worth very little. We have nothing else of value. We were going to file bankruptcy but it is so expensive and we were told we should just stop paying our debts and send letters to our creditors telling them that all our money is SS and pension and we don't own anything of value nor do we plan to ever own anything. We were also told to send them letters telling them not to contact us and that we are judgement proof. I am confused and don't know what to do.
