Assumed Drag Racing, No Radar

I live in Michigan, and me and a buddy were driving next to each other down the four lane, the speed limit was 35 mph im not sure exactly how fast we were going, but probably 45 mph. the cop was on a side road pulling out and pulled us over when we passed by. i knew we were speeding but wasnt sure how fast at the time, and i heard him give my friend a hard time for not knowing how fast he was going, so when he came over to ask me i said i wasnt sure and to avoid him doing the same to me the first thing that came in my head was 60... i dont know why but thats what i said. he didnt have us on radar and he assumed we were going 50 mph he said. he gave us both a careless driving ticket for the speed and thinking we were drag racing. I'm not sure what kind of chances i have but i would like to know what kind of grounds i have to stand on to fight this ticket. Any advice would be appreciated... Thanks

Given that you confessed to going 60 MPH in a 35 MPH (residential?) zone, it's going to be tough to beat the ticket.

To be clear, you're only charged with careless driving (civil infraction, 3 points), not with being involved in a drag race or speed race? The latter charge is a criminal misdemeanor.
