Transmission Repair Gone Bad - What Are My Legal Options

My question involves a consumer law issue in the State of: Missouri

I met a guy on Craigslist who said he had a rebuilt transmission for my truck and he offered to install it for a few hundred bucks.

Shortly after I test drove the truck when his repairs were done, the transmission began having problems. I have already paid him for the work, and have no paper work of any kind.

He will not return my phone messages. It's been more than two weeks.

Trans shops (2) say it needs a complete rebuild.

Do I have any legal options? Should I send a letter indicating I'll sue? Thanks

He told me if I had any problems to call him.

He didn't say he would fix anything though, did he? Just call him.



bottom line; if he did not offer an expressed warranty, you really have nothing. If he will help in some way, I believe that is more than he is legally required to do.

What does the new transmission shop state to have been the cause of the failure?

If the transmission was not as represented by the seller, or the installation was not properly performed, you can sue in small claims court.
