My question involves a consumer law issue in the State of: California
I received a letter in 6-09 from California DMV for a simple renewal of driver license. June 22 about 3 weeks prior to the "expiration" (7-8-09) I posted a payment of $118 towards the renewal on the official DMV website. Payment was collected and stated DMV will take about 10-15 days to receive my new DL.
In late July my 6 month auto insurance renewal was approaching. With the renewal came a few usual requests for signatures and a copy of my current DL. It's almost August and I have yet to receive my DL so my auto insurance company gave me another week to send in a copy of my new DL. Now Im driving with no DL and no insurance! Scary i know but How else am I going to make it to work?!?!
A week passed and still no renewed DL. I decided to call which was worse then trying to get a hold of the President. Finally got through and was told my payment was collected and it would take about 30 - 60 days to receive my DL. I explained my auto insurance issue and in there own words "it wasn't their issue". I requested some type of proof showing that I have a valid DL in-order to renew my AI. They wanted more money and another 2 week wait to receive Proof of DL.
I just received a letter from my bank stating that I have no insurance on the vehicle so as lien holders they have to provide coverage which resulted in $1300 added to my loan.
Its been well over 60 days still no DL, No insurance on truck , and now paying $1300 more on my loan.
So pretty much paid DMV of California $118 to be put in this bind when all i did was what I was suppose to do?!?! Any help or advice would greatly be appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you for reading
