i made a huge mistake when i was seventeen. I took out moms car out for stroll in CA and got into an accident. Now i'm due in court on Thursday and i got three counts against me. 1.driving without a license. 2. take the vehicle unlawfully - b/c my mom showed up at the scene and the cops asked her if i had permission she said no because she didn't want to be liable. 3. unsafe lane change "THIS IS A INFRACTION." i didn't have a license at the time. i went to my first hearing and the judge offered me 6months probation, 40 hrs comm. service and the misdimeanor would go on my record but i pleaded not guilty. I've never been in trouble or goT involved with the law. I'm on the varsity basketball team i do comm service out of my own goodness. I'm trying to not have this go on my record. PLEASE, ANY HELP OR POINTERS WOULD BE HELPFUL. SHOULD I GET A PUBLIC DEFENDER OR A PRIVATE ATTORNEY? judging from anybody's experience is this case likely to get dismissed if i show up and ask for a public defender?

Consulting a lawyer would be a good idea. If you cannot afford a lawyer, or your parents won't help you find one, consider requesting a public defender.

In relation to the criminal offenses, are you charged as a juvenile?
