Default Ticketed for No Proof of Insurance, But Was Insured

My question involves insurance law for the state of: CA. I was pulled over recently for expired tags. The officer asked for my lic & proof of ins while he was running my lic i was looking for my ins. card. When he came back im still looking in glove box he starts writing my ticket for expired tags & when i remembered my wife put it in our road hazzard box in the trunk. I told the officer that and he said that wouldn't be nessacery. Just correct the violation & bring proof of ins. it would onlt cost me about $20.00 Go to court with papers Judge sees registrations corrected & fines me $25.00 Then asked me to plead guilty or not guilty on proof of Ins. I( start to show my ins. card & explain she said since my ticket had a ckd box for no proof of ins she couldnt dismiss it. So plead not guilty and have to go to trial. ?????
