I'm dealing with AAA on this, and so far, it's been a nightmare.
My vehicle was hit by a truck that ran a red light on 2/22 - police and independent witnesses verified that it was 100% his fault. My car is totalled, and I've been in a rental since it happened. MY car was towed to a local storage facility, and there it still sits.
AAA has finally accepted liability for it (on 3/10), but they are giving me a hassle about the storage fees from the tow company, and the rental that has replaced my car. At $20 per day, the rental can't be more in the "reasonable" range, and the original adjuster said that as long as I got the police report to them (showing fault) within 2 weeks (a "reasonable" time span, which I did), then they would cover the charges. The original adjuster is now denying that he said that, and they want me to pay 1/2 of a $1000 storage charge, since their investigation has now stretched out for 4 weeks.
I thought I had insurance, but it had lapsed. I know that I can't ask for pain & suffering because of this, but they should cover everything else, right? They're talking about due diligence and mitigation (i.e., my ins company should have taken care of this), but how far can they go with this?
They're also saying that I'm responsible for ALL my own medical bills until treatment is completed, then I can submit them for reimbursement. I'm a college student with no medical coverage, and this is just impossible - there's no feasible way for me to cover the bills. And since pain & suffering iclaims aren't allowed, the lawyer I talked to doesn't want to touch it.
What can I do? HELP!
