Merely displaying it or using it in a threatening manner can be brandishing. When you point it at someone it can be charged as ADW (firearm).
More often than not, this can be pled down to brandishing.
In your scenario 245(a)(2) is likely since the person was already involved in a shooting (apparently) and then points it at another person making a threat (another felony in violation of PC 422). The person with the gun is going to be in a bad way if they charge him with all the possibilities.
